Andrew FrederickANDREW FREDERICKS, Director

Andrew Fredericks' filmmaking career spans over twenty years. He has directed, edited and shot a wide variety of documentaries that have appeared on network and public television, on such diverse series as Frontline, National Geographic Explorer, American Experience, ABC News Turning Point and NOW with Bill Moyers. Films he has worked on have received numerous awards including a Peabody for To Be an American, a Christopher for Living on the Edge, a Society of Professional Journalists First Amendment Award for Free Speech for Sale, the Harry Chapin Media Award for Surviving the Good Times, and an Emmy nomination for Global Health: Americas Response, which the New York Daily News called, devastating. Other works include: FAT: What No One Is Telling You, Moyers on the Hudson, America in the Forties, Faith and Reason and If You Knew Sousa.

Alex Gibney ProducerALEX GIBNEY, Producer

Alex Gibney is one of the world's foremost documentary film directors and is well known for crafting stories that take an unflinching look at the political landscape of America. His work as a writer/director includes: the 2008 Oscar-winning film Taxi to the Dark Side, the 2006 Oscar-nominated film Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, and the current Magnolia Pictures release, Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, featuring Johnny Depp.

Among scores of other films as producer and director, Gibney served as executive producer for No End in Sight (Magnolia Pictures), which won the Special Jury Prize at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and was also nominated for an Oscar, and as the Series Producer for The Blues, an Emmy-nominated series of seven films in association with executive producer Martin Scorsese.


Mr. Matonti draws from a multi-faceted background in the entertainment field and has served as filmmaker, producers representative, and distribution executive. Mr. Matonti produced a 21-song soundtrack for Loose Women, with such recording artists as Mark Bryan of Hootie and the Blowfish, Luscious Jackson, and Corey Glover.

Mr. Matonti spearheads the acquisition of content and distribution of films at Gabriel Film Group. Mr. Matonti has sold such films as This Thing of Ours (starring Frank Vincent, James Caan), Cult (starring Taryn Manning), and Inside (starring Gossip Girls' Leighton Meester) to the worldwide market. Mr. Matonti is responsible for the oversight of the companys budget, strategic business development and implementation.

Peter L. BullPETER L. BULL, Producer

Peter Bull has been producing, writing and directing long form documentaries and public affairs programs for public, network & cable television for the last twenty years. Bulls most recent productions include Hot Politics, about the politics of global warming that aired in April 2007 on the PBS series Frontline and Bill Moyers on America: The Net @ Risk, a PBS documentary broadcast in October 2006. For the New York Times and the Discovery Channel, Bull produced Haiti: Democracy Undone, an investigation into the ouster of Jean-Bertrand Aristide, and the Emmy Award-winning documentary about campaign finance, Follow the Money.


Ms. Coppola is Chairman of Gabriel Film Group and serves as a financing partner and Executive Producer on various film projects. Ms. Coppola spearheads publicity and has worked with leading publicity firms on such films as The Simian Line (starring Harry Connick Jr., Lynn Redgrave, William Hurt, Cindy Crawford) and Bobby G. Can't Swim.  Ms. Coppola will Executive Produce in collaboration with Dwight Yoakam the dark comedy "Whale Season", a novel by N.M. Kelby, published by Random House, Inc. which was on New York Times Best Seller List.  Ms. Coppola is a co-creator and founder of the NEW-GEN franchise. Ms. Coppola works closely on the creative aspects of NEW-GEN and oversees editorial of the Comics and Story Bible.

J.D. MATONTIJ.D. MATONTI, Executive Producer

J.D. Matonti has a strong background in all phases of production: story development, directing, and editing. Mr. Matonti Executive Produced the critically acclaimed Bobby G. Can't Swim, My Ex- Girlfriends Wedding Reception (starring Dom DeLuise and Deborah Gibson), and Loose Women (starring Charlie Sheen). Mr. Matonti has directed several music videos for top recording artists and he also directed and produced Lethal Justice, a teen thriller. J.D. Matonti is a co-founder of Gabriel Film Group, a diversified media company.  Mr. Matonti is founder and creator of NEW-GEN, a sci-fi global transmedia franchise. J.D. recently directed Mark Hamill in the teaser animatic for NEW-GEN, conceiving the NEW-GEN world, characters, creatures and robots that inhabit that dimension.

Walter McConnellWALTER McCONNELL, M.D.,FACEP, Executive Producer

After graduation from Bucknell University in 1953 as a pre-med biology major, Walt served 2 years in the United States Navy,seeing duty in Korea. In 1955 he entered Thomas Jefferson Medical College, receiving his medical degree in 1959. He spent the next 42 years in New Jersey, the first 14 as a family physician in Morris County and the remainder in Emergency Medicine at Dover General Hospital where he was director of the department for 12 years. He was the school physician and team doctor for Roxbury HS from which he graduated in 1949. After his first retirement in 1996, he worked as a physician for Holland America and American Hawaiian Cruise Lines until 2001. Walt was board-certified in family and emergency medicine. Walt has traveled extensively to 110 countries. He served as a volunteer physician in Nepal three times and in Nigeria in 2009.

His involvement in the documentary Money-Driven Medicine relates to his growing frustration with the direction medicine was taking, especially the depersonalized doctor-patient relationship and commercialized medical decision-making where profit seemed more important than patients' welfare. He witnessed the development of the current primary care crisis due to medical education debt and the wide reimbursement margin between primary care physicians and specialists. In the emergency room, he witnessed a dramatic increase in non-urgent visits due to patients' lack of access to primary care physicians.

Dr. Robert JohnsonROBERT JOHNSON, PH.D., Co-Executive Producer

Dr. Robert Johnson serves on the boards of the Democracy Alliance, The Institute for America's Future and the Brennan Center for Justice. Dr. Johnson is the former managing director at Soros Fund Management where he managed a global currency, bond and equity portfolio specializing in emerging markets. Before that, Johnson was a managing director of Bankers Trust Company and served as Chief Economist of the US Senate Banking Committee under the leadership of Chairman William Proxmire. He also served as Senior Economist of the U.S. Senate Budget Committee under the leadership of Chairman Pete Domenici. Dr Johnson holds a PhD. and M.A. in Economics from Princeton University and a B.S. in both Economics and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Maggie MaharMAGGIE MAHAR, Author

Maggie Mahar is the Healthcare Fellow at The Century Foundation where she writes the HealthBeat Blog, and the author of Money-Driven Medicine: The Real Reason Health Care Costs So Much. Before she began writing about healthcare, Mahar was a financial journalist and her first book Bull: A History of the Boom and Bust 1982-2003 was recommended by Warren Buffet in Berkshire Hathaway's annual report. In an earlier career, Mahar was an English professor at Yale University where she taught 19th and early 20th century novels and poetry.
